Support video for an article for "The Retiree" magazine. The article is "Staying agile and Pain Free.
This clip shows how to perform the one legged squat, using a chair. For most people, this will really improve your leg strength and, more important for the ageing population (me included!), maintain and improve balance.
In time, this can prepare anyone to do a full one-legged squat—and most teenagers can't do a single one of these.
In my view, exercising the body unilaterally is the key to functional strength and tremendous balance. Don't be in too much of a hurry in lowering the height of the support: squatting down to the height of a normal chair will be quite a challenge in itself in the beginning.
