My Father
My father always yearned for more
My father always broke the law
Was sent away frequently
Where he wrote pros and poetry
My father never finished school
Some people took him for a fool
But he built a house and made things grow
THere was no book he didn't know
He was sold a dream of gold
And he believed every word he'd read
My father dreamed of foreign lands
He'd spend his days making plans
Sad that his family couldn't see
They were too tired of poverty
My father never had a dad
His whole life this made him sad
Lost to the war when he was three
Dying for freedom in his country
My father dreamed to own a home
The government gave him a loan
But when my father couldn't pay
They came and took his home away
He was sold a dream of gold
And he believed every word he'd read
But the papers didn't say, employers wouldn't pay
A man like him
No choices in the end, he could only depend
On men like him
When my father passed away
He didn't leave enough to pay
For his funeral and grave
It cost more than we could save
In memory of Roger David White 10/08/39-11/10/11
